What insurance policies are automatically provided as a part of Athletics Australia membership?
The following insurance policies automatically form part of membership;
- Public Liability & Products Liability
- Professional Indemnity
- Personal Accident
- Property & Equipment
- Management Liability
- Cyber Liability & Privacy Protection insurance
- Travel Insurance
What is Public Liability Insurance?
This policy provides protection for insured entities and persons that are held liable for a negligent act that results in property damage or bodily injury anywhere in the world.
What is the Limit of Liability?
$30,000,000 for Public & Products Liability claims.
Is there a Public Liability / Professional Indemnity policy excess?
Yes an excess of $500 is payable by you the Athletics Australia member for Public Liability Claims.
Are non-Australian residents covered?
Yes, providing you are an Athletics Australia member.
What is Personal Accident Insurance?
Personal Accident insurance is a policy that covers you in the event that you are injured whilst participating or travelling to or from training or events that are sanctioned by Athletics Australia or their affiliated State & Territory Associations and affiliated clubs. The policy will pay out a lump sum benefit in the event of a permanent disability, paraplegia, quadriplegia or death, caused by an accident.
Coverage applies whilst registered members and non-participating officials, committed members, voluntary workers and work experience students are involved in sanctioned Athletics Australia activities.
The most commonly claimed expenses under the Athletics Australia Personal Accident policy are;
- Non Medicare Medical Expenses (100% of Non Medicare Medical Expenses up to $2,500 per injury) $50 excess applies, $nil excess if you have private health insurance
- Loss of Income (85% of your income up to $700 per week). There is no benefit payable for the first 7 days you are away from work as a result of your injury. The benefit period is 104 weeks
Are there any medical expenses which are not covered?
Yes. There is a Government Legislation which prevents insurers from covering Medicare related costs including the Medicare Gap.
The most common “Non-Medicare” expenses include:
- Private Hospital Bed & Theatre Fees
Medical expenses that are covered by Medicare (i.e. not covered by this sports injury policy) include:
- Doctor’s Fees
- Anaesthetist’s Fees
- Surgeon’s Fees
Am I covered in the event of death or other permanent injury?
Yes, the following lump sum payments are provided under the Athletics Australia Personal Accident policy;
- Seniors (aged between 18 years and 25 years) $100,000
- Juniors (aged under 18 years, or between 65 -100 years) $20,000
- Quadriplegia and Paraplegia $500,000
- All other Capital Benefits $100,000
What is the age limit on the Athletics Australia Personal Accident Policy?
The policy covers members which are aged between 2 and 100 years of age.
Do I have to pay for my medical expenses first?
Yes, the Personal Accident policy is a reimbursement policy, you must pay for your medical expenses and seek the applicable reimbursement under the Personal Accident insurance policy.
